Every layer, built and handed over
Data pipelines, retrieval, agents, interfaces and the models they run on, in your environment. We build every layer and hand it all over, so nothing depends on us or on a vendor's roadmap.
Most companies rent their intelligence: every answer goes through a model vendor, and SaaS seats are paid in full while teams use a small fraction of the features. We build your own custom layer on top: software shaped to how your business works, on your data, that you own.
| Own it with Soba Labs | Rent it: SaaS and AI APIs | Build it alone in-house | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who owns the code and data | You, all of it | The vendor | You |
| Fit to your process | Built around how you work | One size for every customer, and you use a fraction | Built around you, if the skills are there |
| How you pay | A fixed price per outcome | Per seat or per token, for as long as you use it | Salaries and months of hiring |
| When it changes | When you decide | On the vendor's roadmap | When the team finds time |
| Where your data lives | In your environment, even offline | On the vendor's servers | In your environment |
| Switching models | Measured against your own evals | Not your call | Possible, once someone builds the evals |
| Time to production | Days | Fast to start, slow to fit | Months |
Data pipelines, retrieval, agents, interfaces and the models they run on, in your environment. We build every layer and hand it all over, so nothing depends on us or on a vendor's roadmap.
Where a SaaS tool or an outside product covers a fraction of what you need, we build the product around your process and your data. The code, the data and the roadmap are yours.
Your workflows become test sets with verified answers. Any model can be scored against them, so switching models is a measured decision, not a leap of faith.
Every production failure and every correction from your experts is kept with the right answer, so each mistake improves the system instead of repeating.
For forecasting, classification and other narrow tasks, compact specialist models can match general ones at a fraction of the compute. We pick them and feed them your own history as context, and keep frontier models for the work that needs them.
Banks, hospitals and industrial sites keep their most valuable data off the internet. The system runs on open-weight models inside your network, with no call to an outside API.
Open-weight models now come close to the frontier on many tasks, at a fraction of the cost, so owning more of your AI is practical. Hosted models are also retired and repriced on the vendor's schedule, and a customisation built on one can disappear with it. When AI runs core work, you should decide when it changes.
Only in part. It means owning the whole system: the custom software and products your team works in, the data and retrieval behind them, your evals and the feedback loop from production, and the models they run on. Weights are the part most likely to change, so the durable asset is everything around them. Own that, and you can move to a better model, rented or open-weight, and keep what you have learned.
Not all of them. Keep the systems of record that work. Most teams use a small part of what they pay for, so we build the custom layer on top: the workflows, agents and answers your team actually uses, shaped to your process. You own that layer, and you can drop the seats and add-ons you no longer need.
A model is one part. Owning intelligence that improves a business means turning workflows into evaluations, expertise into retrieval and rules, and production failures into fixes, then carrying all of it forward when a better model ships. That system is the work we do.
You can, and sometimes you should. Production AI needs evaluations, controls, monitoring and security from day one, and a team that has shipped it before gets there in days instead of quarters. We build inside your stack and hand everything over, so your team owns the result, not a dependency on us.
No. Most companies will keep renting frontier models for their hardest problems. We design the system so the model is a choice you can change: frontier where it earns its cost, open-weight where it is good enough, measured by your own evals.
Yes, when it has to. For data that cannot leave the building, the system runs on open-weight models served inside your network, with tracing and evaluations self-hosted next to it, so nothing calls an outside API. It takes more setup than the cloud, so we only recommend it where your rules require it.
Where your policies say it can. We build to your security and GDPR standards, with a DPA and human oversight where it matters, and systems that touch real operations run on the cloud and infrastructure you already control. In regulated industries that control is often the reason to own the system at all.
